Jesus Maya and Timoteo Cantú were in all probability the first widely popular and famous dueto norteño along the Texas Mexican border - la frontera. They sang with accordion and bajo sexto - a sound to dominate not only border music but soon much of Mexican ranchera music from then on.
By 1946 Maya y Cantú had gained remarkable regional popularity which resulted in the duo hosting their own radio program every day from 4 to 5 pm over Nuevo Laredo's XEDF. At night they sang ar the One-Two-Three Club on calle Canales in Nuevo Laredo's Zona Rojo.
